Tonalli

The living 260-day count of the Aztec/Mexica calendar — your day-sign, its fire, and a daily practice in its rhythm.

How it works

The same short walkthrough shown the first time you open the app:

Getting started

  1. Open the Today tab — see today's day-sign and number in the Tōnalpōhualli, the 260-day sacred count of the Aztec/Mexica calendar.
  2. Take the daily practice — a short scenario carrying today's day-sign energy. There are no wrong answers.
  3. Enter your birth date in Settings to reveal your own day-sign and number — the character you were born under.
  4. Watch your Growth profile take shape from your responses over the days.

The tradition behind it

The Tōnalpōhualli ("count of days" in Nahuatl) interlocks 20 day-signs with 13 numbers into a 260-day round — the sacred calendar of the Aztec/Mexica and the wider Mesoamerican world. Each person carries the character of their birth day; the day being lived always has one too. The app computes both with the Caso–Nicholson correlation, the scholarly standard for aligning the ancient count to our own calendar, entirely on your device.

Common questions

How exact is the correlation to our calendar? As exact as the scholarship allows. The app uses the Caso–Nicholson correlation, the scholarly standard, anchored to the fall of Tenochtitlan (13 August 1521) — but it says plainly that scholars don't fully agree on the precise alignment across five centuries, rather than presenting false precision.
What does my day-sign mean? A character, a set of strengths and cautions — closer to a temperament than a horoscope. The app presents each day-sign's traditional associations and lets your daily practice explore how they show up in you.
Does it work offline? The calendar and your day-sign are computed on the device. The daily scenario and Ask need a connection to our generation service.
