A daily practice in the Daoist arts of time — the Ba Gua clock, the I Ching oracle, and your Ba Zi birth chart.
How it works
The same short walkthrough shown the first time you open the app:
☯ Daoist Way — A living map of the day — its season, its element, its hour — asking not what will happen to you, but how to move in harmony with now.
Every Day Has an Element — The year breathes through 24 solar terms, computed from the Sun's real position and each carrying one of the five elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Today's element sets the day's practice.
Cast the Oracle — The Yi Jing doesn't predict the future — it mirrors the present. Cast coins or yarrow stalks, receive one of 64 pictures of this moment, and take on a short daily practice woven from it.
Ask Anything — Ask about a reading, an element, a decision — your latest casting and Ba Zi are already in view, no need to re-explain them. Plain language, any time.
Walk the Way — self-cultivation (xiūshēn), in a modern form. Read the day's element and casting, do each day's short practice, and watch your five-element star grow — the path of the Shengren, a lifetime practice, not a checklist.
Add Your Birth Moment — Your Ba Zi — the Four Pillars of your birth moment — names your Chinese zodiac year (Wood Dragon, Fire Horse…) properly, and colours every daily practice with your own natal element. Optional, and everything stays on your device.
Getting started
Open the Today tab — the Ba Gua clock shows where this moment sits in the day's and the year's cycles: the current solar term and the element (wuxing) colouring the day.
Take the daily practice — a short, ordinary scenario shaped by today's quality. Respond naturally; there are no wrong answers.
Consult the Oracle when you have a real question — cast a hexagram and receive a reading grounded in the classical texts.
Watch your Growth profile build over time from your daily responses.
The tradition behind it
Daoist practice reads time as a living cycle, not a straight line. The year turns through 24 solar terms; each day carries one of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) with its own quality to cultivate. The app computes all of this from real astronomical data, on your device.
Oracle readings draw on the I Ching — all 64 hexagrams and their changing lines — and the Tao Te Ching, in James Legge's classic translations. Answers are grounded in the actual passages, not generic text.
What's inside
Ba Gua Clock
A live dial of the day and year: solar term, element of the day, and the quality it invites.
I Ching Oracle
Cast by coin or yarrow method (with their true, different probabilities). Hexagram, changing lines, and a grounded reading.
Ba Zi chart
Your Four Pillars birth chart — the year, month, day, and hour elements you were born under.
Ask
Converse with the tradition. Answers cite the I Ching and Tao Te Ching rather than inventing.
Morning guidance
Optional morning notifications greet you with the day's solar term and element — composed on your device, entirely opt-in, and switchable off any time in Settings.
Subscription
Daoist Way offers a free trial period, after which a low-cost subscription unlocks full personalised access. Exact pricing and any current offers are shown in the app at the point of purchase, and via your device's app store account settings.
Privacy
Everything you enter stays on your device; only the prompt needed to generate your reading is sent to our server, with no account or identifier attached. Read the full privacy policy.
Common questions
Coin or yarrow — which casting should I use?
Both are authentic. Coins are quick and symmetric; the traditional yarrow-stalk method makes some line types rarer, as it did historically. The app implements both honestly — Settings explains the odds.
Is this fortune-telling?
No. Readings are for reflection — a classical lens on your own situation. The tradition itself warns against deterministic use, and so do we.
Does it work offline?
The clock, calendar, and your Ba Zi chart are computed on the device and work offline. The daily scenario and Ask need a connection to our generation service.
