Maya

The living 260-day count of the K'iche' Maya — your nawal, your Mayan Cross, and a daily practice in its rhythm.

How it works

The same short walkthrough shown the first time you open the app:

Getting started

  1. Open the Today tab — see today's day-sign (nawal) and tone in the Cholq'ij, the 260-day sacred count still kept by K'iche' daykeepers.
  2. Take the daily practice — a short scenario carrying today's nawal energy. There are no wrong answers.
  3. Enter your birth date in Settings to reveal your own nawal — the sign you were born under — and your Mayan Cross: the signs of your conception, left hand, right hand, and destiny.
  4. Watch your Growth profile take shape from your responses over the days.

The tradition behind it

The Cholq'ij (Yucatec: tzolk'in) interlocks 20 day-signs with 13 tones into a 260-day round — a count that has run unbroken in the Guatemalan highlands for over two thousand years. Each person belongs to the nawal of their birth day; the day you are living always has one too. The app computes both with the standard GMT correlation used by living daykeepers, entirely on your device.

What's inside

Today's nawal

The current day-sign and tone, with the quality it carries — the frame for each day's practice.

Your Mayan Cross

Five signs around your birth nawal — conception, destiny, and the two hands — the classic K'iche' reading of a life.

Calendar

Browse the full round: every sign, every tone, and where today sits in the great wheel.

Ask & Growth

Question the tradition, and let a behavioural profile grow from your daily choices.

Morning guidance

Optional morning notifications greet you with the day's nawal and tone — composed on your device, opt-in, off any time in Settings.

Subscription

Maya offers a free trial period, after which a low-cost subscription unlocks full personalised access. Exact pricing and any current offers are shown in the app at the point of purchase, and via your device's app store account settings.

Privacy

Your birth date stays on your device; only the prompt for your reading is sent to our server, with no account or identifier attached. Read the full privacy policy.

Common questions

Is this the "Maya calendar that ended in 2012"? No — that story confused the Long Count with the Cholq'ij. The 260-day count never "ends"; it turns, like a week does. It is still kept daily by K'iche' communities in Guatemala.
What does my nawal mean? A character, a set of strengths and cautions — closer to a temperament than a horoscope. The app presents each nawal's traditional associations and lets your daily practice explore how they show up in you.
Does it work offline? The calendar, your nawal, and the Mayan Cross are computed on the device. The daily scenario and Ask need a connection to our generation service.
